Al Riwaq Gallery, Bahrain 2013

Public Art Performance

March 2013

In March 2013 I had was invited to collaborate with Rayyah Fathalla (British Council Project Manager Arts and Science, Bahrain) and Al Riwaq Gallery, Bahrain, to create a live performance event for the gallary's guests and supporters.

The event was to include me talking about my London 2012 artistic commissions, and particularly my involvement as associate artist for Wheelpower UK, at Stoke Mandeville, and to create a series of paintings inspired by Paralympic sports and athletes in collaboration with the audience.

The great thing about Bahrain is that the temperature in March means that it is possible to hold events outdoors, and so we set up outside the Gallery alfresco style, and a party atmostphere evolved. As well as the seated and standing audience a number of mercedes limousines passed by and stopped and wound down their windows to watch and observe the artistic action too. The audience were tentative at first but it didn't take long to inspire people to join in and add their creative voices to the artworks.

It was a wonderful evening and I am so delighted that Al Riwaq Gallery have now invited me to Bahrain in collaboration with Brtish Council, Bahrain, in 2014 to undertake an artistic residency at the Gallery.
