The Politics and Mythologies surrounding Disability Art

Loughborough University - Fine Art PhD by Practice

Sensation and Activism

Introduction

This practice-based research will analyse and substantiate how art, created in the face of chronic health conditions and disability, contributes to a historical and contemporary understanding of the politics and mythologies surrounding disability. It therefore aligns with German artist Joseph Beuys’ (1921- 86) pedagogy concerning the role of art as a potential means of effecting social and political change.
